E-commerce is the buying and selling of goods or services on the internet. It incorporates a wide variety of data, systems, and tools for online buyers and sellers, including mobile shopping and online payment encryption. Businesses that dabble in e-commerce use an e-commerce store or some type of e-commerce platform to produce online marketing, sales, and fulfillment.
To further understand e-commerce, it is important to note there are six different models about e-commerce. Business-to-Consumer (B2C), Business-to-Business (B2B), Consumer-to-Consumer (C2C), Consumer-to-Business (C2B), Business-to-Administration (B2A), and Consumer-to-Administration (C2A).
- Business-to-Consumer
B2C e-commerce composes the dealings between a business and consumer. It is the most popular sales model in the e-commerce “umbrella”. An example of B2C would be you buying a pair of jeans from an online retailer.
- Business-to-Business
B2B e-commerce is the sales made between businesses, e.g., a manufacturer, wholesaler, and or a retailer. This does not have anything to do with consumer-facing, and only effects businesses. For example, B2B focuses on the purchasing of raw materials or products that will be bought, repackaged before reaching customers or consumers.
- Consumer-to-Consumer
C2C is one of the original forms of e-commerce. Consumer-to-Consumer is the sale of products or services in-between customers. An example of this would be, OfferUp or eBay.
- Consumer-to-Business
C2B is the original e-commerce model except reversed. This means that the individual consumer is one making the products or services available for business buyers. An example of C2B would iStockPhoto business model which is when stock photos are available online for purchase.
- Business-to-Administration
B2A controls the transactions that are between online businesses and administrations. For example, B2A applies to products and services that are related to legal documents and social security.
- Consumer-to-Administration
C2A like B2A, however, consumers sell products or services online to an administration. C2A includes but not limited to0, online consulting for education, online tax preparation, etc. Both Consumer-to-Administration and Business-to-Administration focus on making the relationship between the government via technology more efficient.
